Seyyal Carnetto
Director
Is an artist and philosopher whose work situates itself at the intersection of aesthetics, politics, and knowledge. She explores the aesthetic distribution of hegemonic knowledge in Western societies, particularly its implications and consequences for subjectivation and truth. Seyyal Carnetto studied communication design and philosophy. In 2007, she, together with Tomaso Carnetto, took on the artistic and managerial direction of the Academy of Visual Arts in Frankfurt, designing the curriculum as an analytical and interdisciplinary research process. She teaches the theory of “Aesthetics and Politics” and the practice of “Performance Studies.” To investigate the potential and limitations of the politics of artistic processes concerning the transformation of societal practices, she is currently developing the artistic work “The Institute as a Social Sculpture”—a platform at the intersection of poetry, temporal sculpture, and performative lecture. Seyyal Carnetto is the co-author of “Sprachkörper II, Mode” (2014) and the author of “01.04.1915 – 30.04.1915: A Linguistic Transnotation of State Documents on the Armenian Genocide” (2015). Since 2021, she has been studying in the postgraduate program “Philosophy, Art and Critical Thought” at the European Graduate School with professors such as Slavoj Žižek and Judith Butler.
Tomaso Carnetto
Director
Studied communication design and then went on to work independently in the areas of concept development, design and publicity. Parallel to his role as lecturer in Design Theory and Practice Tomaso Carnetto developed the basis of the educational methods for The Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt. In 2007 he became director along with Seyyal Carnetto. His focus is the approach of the interrelationship between Language (Poetry, Literature) and inter-discipline design processes. Tomaso Carnetto is the author of several publications that most recent are »Sprachkörper I, zur Verhältnismäßigkeit zwischen Denken und Gestalten« (2012), »Sprachkörper II, Mode« (2014), »Drawing« (2015) sowie »Lectures« (2015).

Dorsa Jalali
Communication and marketing
Working at the intersection of design and curatorial practice, Dorsa showcases underrepresented and emerging artists, addressing societal norms. With four years at O Gallery in Tehran and extensive knowledge of the art scene, she presents artists internationally. As the Communication and Marketing Manager at the Academy of Visual Arts and also a student, she uses her experience and design skills to promote students and works from the Academy.
Yazan Fattayrji
Content manager
A versatile creative immersed in visual media, Yazan Fattayrji excels in photography, videography, and graphic design. His deep technical knowledge spans both software and hardware, making him adept at navigating and integrating various forms of media into cohesive projects. Currently studing at the Academy of Visual Arts in Frankfurt, he contributes to its vibrant environment while refining his craft.

Andreas Knauf
Theoretical Foundation
Studied law at the University of Mainz, and then took up positions in Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz and Berlin. From 2002 until 2006 he lead the legal team for the music label ZYX MUSIC GmbH & Co. KG; and then went onto work as an independent lawyer and specialised in industrial property rights, as well as membership of the Association of Industrial Property Experts (VPP).
Andreas Knauf’s clients are predominantly within Creative Industries. He leads workshops, seminars and lectures on Copyright, design, and trademark law, as well as contract law. At the Academy Visual Arts, Frankfurt he teaches copyright, design, brand and contract law.
2xGoldstein
Practical conception
The twin brothers were born in 1978 on the northern Rhein, and grew up in the Oberpfalz and studied design in Baden. They continue to work and live in the Rhein area. Since 2007 their design practice is focused on posters, catalogues and books for a diverse range of publishers and museum across Germany and Switzerland. An additional focus is exhibition graphics as a collaboration with Zurich based architects. In 2012 they were joined by Sascha Fronczek.
Audrey Large
Practical conception
Audrey Large (born in Toulouse, France in 1994), is a French designer and artist who graduated from MA Social Design at Design Academy Eindhoven with honors in 2017. Designer in residence at the Jan Van Eyck Academie in Maastricht in 2019-2020, she receives the Dutch Design Award in the Young Designer category in 2021.
Andreas und Stephan Lauhoff
Practical conception
Studied at the FH Wiesbaden and founded in 1992 the Design Group 3deluxe. 3deluxe work is transmedia and inter-discipline, with a team of 30 that includes designers, architects, interior architects with offices in Wiesbaden and Shanghai. 3deluxe’s work is inspired by the tension between architecture and design and develops comprehensive design solutions from graphic identity through media installations to architecture, enabling an interrelated aesthetic visual presence.
Thomas Nagel
Practical conception
After completing his studies in Visual Communication at the University for Art and Design Offenbach Thomas worked as designer and project manager for leading design agencies (e.g. Olaf Leu Design, MetaDesign) in Frankfurt, Berlin and San Francisco. In 1994 he founded with partners the xplicit society for Visual Communication in Frankfurt. With a team of 15 in both Frankfurt and Berlin xplicit worked with a diverse range of international clients. Thomas was an initiator of the experimental Typography collaboration Face2Face for which he developed, produced and published PostScript – Alphabet and other multimedia performances.
He has received a string of national and international design awards. He is a member of the Design-Diplom Jury (including DDC, FH Wiesbaden, ETH Zurich). He is a member of the Stifterkreis des Rat für Formgebung / German Design Council, the ICSID Roster of Experts (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design), the Deutschen Designer Club (DDC) and the Forum Typografie.
Simon Renaud
Practical conception
Simon Renaud is a graphic designer & type designer based in Montreuil. He is interested in writing systems, legibility, perception, automation and new technologies. He has been collecting writing systems on his blog Language as Symbols since 2012. He regularly runs workshops and teaches at ÉSAD Amiens.
Antonia Henschel
Practical conception
Studied graphic design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London. She worked as an independent graphic designer in London and Frankfurt. In 2002 she took over as Director of SIGN Communication. Her work has been recognised with awards from Type Directors Club New York, TDC Tokyo, the German Design Award, Design Centre NordRhein Westfalen (red for award), Berlin Type, Forum Corporate Publishing (now known as Best Content Marketing). She has published widely in books on Design and Typographie. Antonia has authored a variety of monographs, for example: “Geometric Sans!” – a homage on the call of the Futura, as well as the books series “Objects” on design production in diverse materials. She lectured in Design in FH Mainz. Since 2011 she is a tutor at the Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt with a focus on editorial design.
Andree Volkmann
Practical conception
Works as an illustrator in Berlin. Along with illustrations for newspapers and magazine he also works in the field of scenography, along with making animations and fashion designs. He has designed wall installations for museum exhibitions at the Jewish Museum Munich, the Grashaus Aachen, and the German History Museum. Recently Andree has broadened his work to encompass set design with a collaboration at the Winter Garden in Berlin. In 2017 his work formed a solo exhibition for the Rostock Art Gallery.
