Apply for your “Stateless Passport”!
The “passport” for stateless individuals is a paradox that challenges the state’s claim to guarantee dignity, freedom, or happiness for its citizens.
Dignity, freedom, and happiness are fundamental needs for both the individual and the community. These needs can only be realized through interaction that transcends all state borders.
Only to the extent that the state provides a concrete refuge for these stateless values can it be considered democratic.
Democracy, therefore, means being committed to the paradox: guaranteeing state protection for the statelessness of human beings.
This is especially true for those who do not belong to any state and are therefore legally considered stateless.
The “Stateless Passport” is a Practice Project by Yazan Fattayrji developed in the Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt, as part of the study program “democracy.academy”. The project was presented as part of the 100th anniversary of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in the city of Wiesbaden.
