About the Workshop
During the workshop with Simon Renaud, students created a version of the word “reaction” through experimentation with form and patterns in black and white. The challenge of working solely in black and white, while focusing on both aesthetics and legibility, was the main point of focus.
About the Designer
Simon Renaud is a graphic designer & type designer based in Montreuil. He is interested in writing systems, legibility, perception, automation and new technologies. He has been collecting writing systems on his blog Language as Symbols since 2012. He regularly runs workshops and teaches at ÉSAD Amiens. Since 2018, Renaud co-organized the international type symposium – Fonts and Faces – at the Campus Fonderie de l’Image. Since 2020, he is PhD researcher at the COSTECH laboratory [UTC] co-directed by Serge Bouchardon and Alexandra Saemmer. He has published typefaces Tuner at Production Type and Augure at 205TF.
